" The Curtin Motorsport Team showed off its student-designed and built racing cars from the past two years at its recent 2010 launch.

The cars were the centrepiece of the evening, during which team members gave presentations about their experiences and where the team was headed this year.

Curtin’s head of mechanical engineering Professor Tony Lucey spoke about the team’s history in front of about 50 sponsors and suppliers from the automotive, manufacturing and engineering industries.

Guests also got to inspect the team’s 2008 and 2009 race cars and speak to the student design engineers and fabrication team.

Team project manager Nathan Staats said having a team set-up helped mechanical and mechatronic engineering students learn by hands-on projects designing and building the cars.

The team’s major focus is competing in the international Formula Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia competition in December, where entrants’ cars are judged on static inspection and engineering design, solo performance trials and high performance track endurance. "
